International research conference “Russia and Central Asia: Legacy of the Past and Opportunities for the Future"

On February 20-21, 2024 Faculty of Historical and Political Sciences, National Research Tomsk State University (Russia) together with the Faculty of History, Andijan State University (Uzbekistan) are holding the International research conference “Russia and Central Asia: Legacy of the past and opportunities for the future”. The sections take place both in traditional, face-to-face form and in video conference format. Participation by correspondence (inclusion in the program, publication without report) is not allowed.

The conference covers various aspects of political, social and cultural history of Central Asia, ethnology and archeology of the region, as well as the problems of international relations. According to the Program Committee, the conference covers the following areas:

1. The peoples of Central Asia in the archaeological, ethnological and cultural dimensions

2. Russian Empire in Central Asia in the 18th – early 20th centuries.

3. The Republics of Central Asia and Kazakhstan: achievements and contradictions of the Soviet period.

4. Central Asia of the 21st century in cultural, economic and international processes.

The sections are preceded by a plenary discussion on current issues in studying the past of the Central Asian region. The conference includes master classes and open lectures by researchers from Tomsk and Andijan universities and invited specialists.

We invite researchers from universities and academic institutions to participate in the conference including historians, political scientists, sociologists, anthropologists, ethnologists, archaeologists, international affairs specialists, regional experts, as well as anyone interested in discussing the problems of studying the history of Central Asia.

Working languages ​​of the conference are Russian, Uzbek, and English.

Based on the results of the conference, a collection of reports will be prepared with indexation in Russian Science Citation Index. Conference participants interested in publication should submit their papers by March 31 2024 formatted according to the rules (Appendix 1). The editorial board reserves the right to reject papers or invite authors to correct them.

Papers are accepted by email: tomsk-andijan-conference@mail.ru. Please, indicate in the “Subject” field: “Russia and Central Asia: Legacy of the past and opportunities for the future.” Receipt of the applications and papers will be confirmed by email.

Participation fee – 1000 rubles for in-person participants, 500 rubles for remote participants. All expenses for participation in the conference related to travel and accommodation are the responsibility by the sending party.
